Cobian Backup Software step-by-step instructions
Hello
Friends, Today I am writing a blog about backup solution especially for
Offices. As we already aware that office computer’s data like files, folders
& mails are very important.
If someone lost data, they immediately approach
IT Person to restore the data. I personally restored the files & folders
for staff.
It
is important task to backup the data regularly. I use Cobian backup software
which is freely available, don’t have to pay anything.
I
backup files, folders, Tally data & Oulook data file daily bases. In this
blog I am describing the same method which I use in office to backup data.

Pls follow these steps
to install & configure Cobian Backup
1.
Download
the software from official website & Run the Setup

Run the setup

Accept the Agreement

4.
Uncheck "Install the Volume Shadow Copy requester"

5. I am not using this as a service, Select Application (Auto start for all users)

Click to Install Cobian Backup, installation started once completed click on Done

7. Now you can see black square icon on the taskbar, Right click on icon & open the software

To create new task just click on '+' Sign

To type the Task Name “Backup”
Uncheck "Create separated backup using
timestamps"
Uncheck "Use Volume Shadow Copy"
Select "Incremental"
Incremental = Data backup which have been altered or modified since last full backup performed

on Files, Here we can set location of Source & Destination
Source
= Shows the source files or directories to backup, We can add multiple sources
in a task

= Shows the destination of the backup

I am using shared folder on network to backup the files & folders

Click on Add & select Manual in Destination saction, past the backup location

16. Scheduling
of Backup, I prefer Daily backup at 2 PM, it is lunch time & computer is not busy

18. "Filter", It is very important option, most of the users in office store unwanted data like songs, movies, games etc. This option filter the backup & skip unwanted files to backup so in "In Include these files ONLY" saction, I add files extension which are to be backup. Just click on Add & then "Mask". Past the files extension in the following format
*.xls,*.xlsx,*.doc,*.docx,*.csv,*.txt,*.zip,*.rar,*.pdf

19. Using

20. Advanced,
Check Delete Empty Directory

21. Task is created showing details named "Backup". Click on double or single triangle just above the task name to start the backup

22. You can see the popup, I use "shutdown the computer when done" when computer has large amount of data like 10 GB. Actually computer automatically shutdown when backup completed. If don't want use this option just click ok

23. As you click ok, a notification display on taskbar "Cobian Backup 11:Backup started"

When backup completed, it shows "Cobian Backup 11:Backup done"

25. You can check source & destination some files like .exe, .jpg skipped just because of "Filter" option (Step 18). Only following files will be backup

26. Same I backup the Microsoft Outlook emails, I create another task named "Outlook". I schedule Outlook backup on "Startup" because we can not backup Outlook data file when it is open. In "Filter" Just type *.pst to backup only pst file

27. You can check source & destination some files like .xlsx, .docx are skipped just because of "Filter" option (Step 18). Only following files will be backup

28. Check the log of recent backup performed
